Highland Youth Football and Cheer Embraces
The 24-Hour Rule
At Highland Youth Football and Cheer, fostering a positive and supportive environment
for our athletes is a top priority. To help maintain respect, emotional balance, and
constructive communication, we are proud to adopt the 24-hour rule.
The 24-hour rule encourages parents, guardians, and family members to wait at least
24 hours before addressing any concerns with coaches, players, or team officials
following a game or practice. This waiting period allows emotions to cool off, giving
everyone the opportunity to approach discussions with clarity and thoughtfulness.
Why the 24-Hour Rule Matters
- Emotional Cooling Off: Sports can be emotionally charged, leading to impulsive
reactions. By waiting 24 hours, parents have time to gain perspective and
approach situations more calmly and rationally.
- Avoiding Heat-of-the-Moment Confrontations: Immediate confrontations with
coaches, umpires, other parents, or players often escalate tensions. Taking a
step back can prevent misunderstandings and conflicts.
- Promoting Effective Communication: Constructive conversations between
parents, coaches, and team officials after the cooling-off period often lead to
better resolutions and a more harmonious environment.
How It Works
- After the game or practice, parents should reflect on their concerns and focus on
supporting their children.
- Once 24 hours have passed, they are encouraged to reach out respectfully to the
coach or appropriate team official to discuss any issues or provide feedback.
Benefits for Our Athletes and Community
- Support for the Child: The rule ensures the focus remains on the child’s
enjoyment, development, and safety. It eliminates unnecessary distractions and
fosters a positive atmosphere.
- Promoting Sportsmanship: By demonstrating patience and thoughtful behavior,
parents’ model good sportsmanship and respect, traits that children carry with
them both on and off the field.
Disciplinary Actions
To ensure adherence to the 24-hour rule, Highland Youth Football and Cheer will
enforce the following disciplinary actions:
1. First Offense: A warning will be issued to the parent or guardian, reminding
them of the importance of the 24-hour rule and the expectations for respectful
behavior.
2. Second Offense: A 7-day suspension will be imposed, during which the parent
or guardian will not be allowed to attend practices or games.
3. Third Offense or Acts Involving Threats/Physical Violence: For a third
disciplinary offense, or for any offense involving threats of or physical violence,
the individual may face a ban from all events (including practices, home games,
and away games) for the remainder of the season. Additionally, such actions
could result in legal consequences.
Our goal is to create an environment where athletes can thrive and families feel
supported. By respecting the 24-hour rule and its guidelines, we can work
together to make every season a positive experience for all!
